My love for reading and writing goes way back... to when I was in Kindergarten.
I couldn’t be bothered with other activities than the letter box, the word puzzles, or the book shelves.
I am always curious to know what other people spend their time researching and writing about.
What is new? Who would have thought? Or I didn’t even know that could be a topic.
You will find lists of books on money, on self discovery and awareness. Discoveries in these fields are so rapid, that I rather read posts or newsletters.
Some of my favorites:
Daniel Pink and his lists are non-fiction eye-openers.
Malcolm Gladwell, Deepak Chopra, Gregg Braden, Rutger Bregman, to name a few avid researchers who generously share their findings.
At the end of every chapter in my book you will find ample literature, articles, and websites on the different angles of women and aging, purpose and creating meaning in that third age.
Yes, most of it is dated, but lots of the wisdom gathered there still applies.
I try to focus on books that not only state the problem, but take the reader into exploring solutions, finding the way forward.
And on sleepless nights: the page turners: gumshoes, thrillers, legal drama.
It’s not always about the plot alone. If I’m lucky I find an author who will take me on location:
Louisiana through James Lee Burke’s eyes,
Jefferey Deaver and NYC.
Carl Hiaassen and Florida
Wilbur Smith and Africa
Tony Hillerman and the SouthWest USA
Epic, powerful fiction: I imagine the author sitting in front of a blank page and … abracadabra… there is a whole book full with incredibly real people, situations, and life itself.
Barbara Kingsolver, Michael Chabon, and Chinua Achebe are virtuosi. Absolutely fascinating.
I don’t want all that wisdom and beauty to lay idle on my Kindle or computer, where very few people live.
These pages are me sharing with you. Share back, or forward.
